Coffee Shop Brecon

Background

Ardent Gallery was first established in Brecon in 2004 at its current location on The Bulwark in Brecon town centre. Originally called A Frame Gallery, the business was founded in Bicester, Oxfordshire in 1996 as a picture framing business. Owners Ian and Clare Dent moved to Brecon in 2003 (whilst Clare was pregnant with their 2nd child) and immediately set about planning a new Gallery and establishing the picture framing business. Their nephew Marc Williams was the first member of staff for the new venture, quickly becoming expert in both picture framing and shopfitting. After opening at 4 The Bulwark the business grew quickly, adding artist materials by Winsor and Newton, to the framing and Gallery operation. Many local artists became part of the family business as it established itself within the Brecon community. High profile exhibitions, for Sue Howells and Paul Apps, and the annual Brecon Jazz helped propel the business forward and bring customers from further afield.

In 2008 Clare and Ian looked to expand the business by adding a second shop, Crickhowell was chosen, but after two property acquisitions fell through, another opportunity in Brecon presented itself. Ardent Gallery opened its second Gallery in June 2009 at 46 High Street, Brecon, the building dating back to 1589 lended itself to other uses. The Coffee Shop, using Illy coffee and locally made cakes by Graham Howell-Morgan proved a perfect combination and one of Brecon's best kept secrets!!

Caroline Parry joined the business and manages the day to day running of the Gallery, Coffee Shop and The PaintPot, a pottery painting experience for all ages and a fantastic party alternative. With another six part time, but regular staff, Ardent Galleries continue to grow, adding more artists to the already impressive list, and securing many satisfied customers from Wales and the rest of the World.
